Hello ghosts and ghouls,

The Mobile Tech Leads met on Wednesday, Oct 31 (NA/AU timezones) to
celebrate Hallowe'en. I was the only one in costume, which -- let me tell
you -- was very disappointing. Unless, of course, everybody came disguised
as Mozilla engineers...

The discussion
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/13ZqcDtmedjAykVveOlZSFYP5tWi2i6G5dCzUuHEBY0U/edit#heading=h.cqzbenie95p3>
was dominated by status updates from the various sub-projects. The major
points are:

- Android Components and Application Services are still pushing on the
shared interfaces to make the Kotlin-to-Rust connections as smooth as
possible. The patterns are still being set but the FxA client library is
looking pretty good.
- Application Services published the first version of the history
storing library
<https://bintray.com/bintray/jcenter?filterByPkgName=places>. Next up,
Sync 1.5 support!
- A proposed networking API
<https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1405081> to expose in
GeckoView is looking healthy.

Remember to brush and floss after all of that Hallowe'en candy,
Nick

What is the reason for doing network requests through GeckoView? I'm
curious what the use case is.

As I understand it's for all the reasons we wanted to have a standalone
Necko. For apps that already include GeckoView it kind of comes for free -
we just need to expose it.

For app code I would love to use it to avoid all the issues we saw in
Fennec whenever we used a different network stack (e.g. downloading
favicons).
